    Install the system

The system installation is a standard Windows application procedure with one step.

    Rantastic Menu in AutoCAD

After installation finished, the following menu appears in AutoCAD.

    System requirements

    • Windows 32 or 64 bits
    • AutoCAD 2021 (more versions under development)
    • DWG plans with materials, separated by layers
    • PDF plans to process

     DWG plan requirements

There’re no restrictions for using any floor plans. However, it’s important to understand that Rantastic generates Wireless Radio Coverage, hence the plans must have material information (Concrete, Brik, Glass etc.), plus — these materials must be separated with the different layers. Apart from the floor plans, Rantastic supports any kind of the areas for calculations — parkings, industrial area, factories, sports venues and so on.

Three steps required to prepare the coverage simulation after the floor layer is opened.

Fantastic requires three simple steps for prediction generation:

    1. Check Units
    2. Define the Prediction Area using a dedicated layer
    3. Locate Equipment using a Dedicated Layer

    Units

The first point to check is the Units — Command ’Units’.

Rantastic works with any units; these units must be defined in the settings, otherwise Rantastic won’t calculate the heat maps due to the lack of scale information.

    Prediction Area

Prediction area it’s an area where Rantastic calculates the coverage. Currently, Rantastic works only with a Rectangle shape, in future releases we plan to add more complicated and freeform drawings.

Rantastic supports one prediction form per area, user can define many areas for multiply calculations.

    Equipment Layer

Equipment Layer is where the wireless equipment is located on the floor or plan, this layer is used by Rantastic to detects the equipment locations. Rantastic uses a central point for any object in this layer as a location point.

User needs to create a separated layer — for instance “WiFi AP layer” — it could be a few layers to analyse optional equipment locations, or different models to try and compare.

Once the layer added, user needs to locate the equipment by placing Symbols — Rantastic provides its own Transmitter Symbols, These symbols have a dedicated layer within, so in case of using the Rantastic Symbol — no need to create an Equipment area as it will be created automatically.

    Network Simulation

To Run the simulation user opens Rantastic Tab and hits “Ran Simulation”.

Rantastic provides a Wizard to guide a user for the system settings. It requires only ones for each floor, all settings can be changed later.

There’re three main steps to run the simulation:

    • Walls and Materials menu
    • Network Settings menu
    • Analysis Settings menu
    Initial system setup

    Walls and Materials

The first step is to connect the plan's layers and material data base.

Each material has its Thickness — user can change it if necessary.

Material Data Base stores on the Rantastic Cloud and updates automatically.

    Network Settings menu

Wireless Network Menu — user defines the Layer which contains the Radio Equipment, plus selects the required Technology, Band and system settings.

Step 1 — user defines the AutoCAD layer, containing Wireless Equipment

Step 2 — Select the required Technology

    Select the technology

Rantastic supports Wi-Fi 802.11n, 802.11ac, 802.11ax for simulation, as well as Generic Technology.

Generic Technology allows to simulate radio coverage for any radio equipment, working in the listed below bands.

User defines Frequency Band, Frequency bandwidth, Tx Power

    Prediction Parameters

User defines main parameters for the simulation:

Prediction Layer — a layer with the Calculation Rectangle Area

Heat map resolution — the number of calculation points per cm²

Signal Source Elevation — Signal Antenna Height above Plan Level

User Equipment Height — User device height above floor plan level

    System Status

When the system is defined, user hits Rantastic button and systems starts the simulation. User can see the status using the system status menu.

Overview

Rantastic it's an AutoCAD plugin for wireless radio planning for all relevant radio technologies. It helps carriers, installation companies, boosting signal and small cell vendors and installation companies to analyse an expected wireless coverage for indoors, build BoM’s and define the amount of equipments as well as select the best equipment locations.

The system consists of two parts — a local agent for defining parameters and Cloud Rantastic Engine for quick coverage calculation and heat map creation.

AutoCAD with Rantastic

When using Rantastic, a powerful machine is not required, as all heavy calculations made on the Rantastic Cloud.

Important note — Rantastic does not copy any data, files or metadata on the Rantastic Cloud Engine — it only getting shape for radio prediction and network analysis.

The system works directly in AutoCAD and requires a few specific layers to create and manage. The exact requirements are defined in this document.

Rantastic works automatically; a user only defines the Wireless Network Parameters, Walls Materials and locates equipment over the floor or any other required area.

As with all calculations made on the cloud, the system requires a stable internet connection.
